YIT is the largest residential construction company in Finland. It creates more attractive and sustainable urban environments by building housing, business premises, infrastructure and entire areas. YIT also strives for being more involved in the everyday life of its customers – the home-owners and residents – and find new business in the service ecosystem related to a life spent in a home. Through this innovation challenge YIT is looking forward to piloting new ideas, service concepts, technologies and products to ease people’s everyday lives.
YIT aims to create even more value by offering its customers great services and service experiences. What kinds of digital services could be created to improve living? What would be possible new business models and value propositions for YIT – not just selling homes, but also helping make the most out of living in them? How could we develop new service products based on YIT’s available resources? Some current themes the ideas could relate to:
Living as a service Housing is evolving in the long-term to a service which combines safety of ownership, freedom of rental living and convenience of living at a hotel. What kinds of new forms of living could YIT create as an alternative for traditional ownership and rental housing?
Utilization of built environment How could YIT’s owned and built spaces such as offices, parking lots and commercial spaces be in more efficient and profitable use, utilizing sharing economy and digital technology and services?
Locking, access control and logistics People are ordering more and more goods from online stores, and therefore the chain of supply plays a significant role in people’s everyday lives. What kinds of solutions could be included to the building in order to provide smooth and user friendly access? What kinds of new security solutions will be needed?
Resident services At the moment the service experience of residence related services for a home-owner is not very customer-oriented and relies on the customer actively taking control of his/her own service experience. What new services could YIT include in the ecosystem of services in order to create smooth everyday life for the home-owner or resident? How could he/she better manage his/her own customer experience? What might be the role of sharing economy in the ecosystem of resident services?
Together with this, experts from YIT will be supporting the development of services and customers will be available to give feedback on the concepts. Industryhack’s partners will provide technology and cloud services to help rapid development.
All selected teams will be paid 1500 euros for participating in the challenge, and 2-3 teams will be selected to do 20 000 euro pilot projects with YIT.
IPR for any software codebase or documents produced during the competition will stay with the participating team, even though ideas cannot be protected. The host has the first right of refusal to negotiate further collaboration with the team to purchase or continue working on the project initiated after the pilot.
