Yliopiston Apteekki (YA) is a leading Finnish pharmacy group owned by University of Helsinki. YA runs 17 pharmacies in Finland and over 50 in Russia and Estonia, and operates Finland’s biggest online pharmacy. YA has over 1300 employees and its turnover is over 300 Million euros. YA attracts over 12 million customer visits annually and its loyalty program Uniikki has over 900,000 members. YA is rated as one of the best customer service companies in Finland and a pioneer in developing new healthcare service concepts, product offerings and online sales.
YA’s vision is to be a world-class personal partner for your health and well-being, offering a wide range of products and services to support better life for its customers. At the core is the Uniikki program, which enables personalized, secure and caring customer service experience. To reach the goal, YA is building a partner ecosystem.
Uniikki customer profile and data will be the main enablers of data-driven service development for both YA and its partner ecosystem. Uniikki and its customer database are thus becoming the very center of YA’s future business and customer experience – not just a loyalty program.
At the moment, the digital Uniikki program includes only a digital version of the loyalty card. YA wants to create more sophisticated digital touchpoints for Uniikki patrons, and is now asking for your ideas and suggestions for them.
What kind of digital services should YA provide for its Uniikki patrons? How could it become consumers’ favorite starting point for personalized health and well-being services? How could it evolve to include services provided by both YA and its partner ecosystem?
We are looking for innovative ideas and concepts for the digital interface that connects Uniikki customers with their personalized health and well-being services offered by YA and its partner ecosystem. Can you help YA get closer to their vision of the Uniikki customer profile, and get started with building its digital touchpoints?
To help the development of proof-of-concepts during the challenge, we have reserved some key people and resources to support your work.
Mentors & Experts
Each team will be assigned with their own mentor from YA. There will also be other experts from YA and their customers to help teams with their work.
Data & Software
Customized test data from current Uniikki customer database, e-commerce analytics data, customer insights and product data can be made available for the teams.
Other tools & Tech
Samsung consumer electronics such as VR gear, smartphones and tablets can be used for demonstration purposes. IBM Bluemix and Watson platforms for software development are also available.
The teams compete for pilot projects worth 20 000 euros. Each participating team will be paid a reward of 1500 eur. Rewards are paid against invoice after the team has presented their demo and the customer has made the decision about the pilot (this will happen within 30 days).

Apply with a team of 2-3 people. All applications will be reviewed after the deadline and all applicants will be informed one week after the deadline. Teams that submit early have a small advantage because we have more time to read their applications. 6-8 teams will be selected to join the challenge.
Ideas are free for everyone to use but the IPR for any software codebase or documents produced during the competition will stay with the team. The host has the first right of refusal to negotiate further collaboration with the team to purchase or continue working on the project initiated during the challenge.
